Unscripted: Francisco Goldman and #RenunciaYa

Silvia Viñas speaks with journalist and writer Francisco Goldman about his coverage of the 1998 murder of Guatemalan Bishop Juan José Gerardi, a case in which a key witness implicated ex-President Otto Pérez Molina –but Pérez Molina was never investigated. Goldman speaks to his own reporting on the case and its ties to the current La Linea scandal brought by CICIG which recently toppled Pérez Molina from power.

Here are links to the New Yorker article, “From President to Prison: Otto Pérez Molina and a Day for Hope in Guatemala” and Francisco Goldman’s book about the Gerardi case, “The Art of Political Murder.”

And the story of the protests that brought down Pérez Molina, produced by Luis Trelles.
