• What is our mission?

Founded in 2011, Radio Ambulante Studios is a nonprofit news organization that produces long-form audio journalism for audiences everywhere Spanish is spoken. Our mission is to create greater understanding of Latin American and Latino communities in the U.S. through well-told, rigorously reported, and expertly produced audio journalism, offering audiences a nuanced portrait of a complex and vitally important region. We are committed to editorial independence and transparency. Our editorial team strives to be consistent and express these values in the content it produces, maintaining full control of all decisions.

• What do we do?

We tell uniquely real, human stories from across Latin America – stories that are moving and funny and surprising, stories which reveal a diverse region in all its beautiful complexity. We serve a global audience eager for stories in their own language that opposes simplistic representations of Latin America

We produce two podcasts, Radio Ambulante and El hilo, and are embarking on a new and ambitious endeavor to be launched in January 2024. We have been pioneers in Spanish-language audio journalism and storytelling.

• How do we fund our organization?

Radio Ambulante Studios’ funds come from diverse sources, including grants and distribution agreements, like the one with NPR. Other sources of income include revenue from sales of Jiveworld en Español -our learning language app-, and our membership program.

When so many media outlets are closing their doors, advertising revenues are cratering, and the foundations that support nonprofit newsrooms are becoming scarcer, memberships give us a vital boost. Our members are the ones who help keep Radio Ambulante moving forward.

• Why should I join Deambulantes?

Well, at Radio Ambulante, we do much more than produce compelling stories that resonate with our community of listeners. We are convinced of the urgency and importance of telling stories about Latin American and Latino communities in the U.S. in Spanish, of focusing on situations, populations, and territories that are often underrepresented, while highlighting the voices of the protagonists. In addition, we seek to build a vibrant community around our journalism with innovative engagement strategies such as our Listening Clubs, which are in-person events organized by our listeners worldwide, to listen together and engage in deep and authentic conversations about our stories as a community, expanding opportunities for our listeners to connect and engage in meaningful civic discussions.
