ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

In the last two and a half years, our team has doubled in size, our revenue grown significantly, and we are developing new, exciting projects for the second half of 2023 and beyond. As we hire our first dedicated development position, we are seeking someone who can dream big, quickly turn ideas into clear and compelling proposals. The right candidate can manage long-term strategies and plans, and is not afraid to roll up their sleeves in an ambitious non-profit media organization serving a diverse and highly engaged audience.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Coordinator will help the organization achieve its financial priorities. They will bring skills and expertise to develop and implement a fundraising strategy with the support of foundations, government grants, and corporate and individual donors. In conjunction with the executive team, the Development Coordinator will play a vital role in expanding the funding base of Radio Ambulante Studios, writing grants, managing and overseeing all aspects of our fundraising strategy, while developing meaningful relationships with strategic partners to further advance our mission.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

An ideal candidate must believe in the mission of Radio Ambulante Studios, understand the important role stories can play in the life and culture of a community, and be able to articulate the significance of the project to potential funders in both Spanish and English. We are looking for a person who has contacts with foundations in the United States, and is comfortable in the role of spokesperson and champion for a new journalistic venture.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and soliciting funds from donors, maintaining relationships with existing donors, researching and writing grant proposals and reports, and leading fundraising events.
  • Establishing systems and processes for tracking donor cultivation and stewardship, grant applications and reporting, and donor acknowledgment, while maintaining relationships with existing donors.
  • Planning and overseeing special fundraising events and identifying opportunities to raise awareness and support for Radio Ambulante Studios.
  • Significantly increasing the portfolio of institutional and major individual donors through research and donor engagement with the goal of tripling the organization’s operating budget in the next three years.
  • Working closely with the CEO and across teams to design and execute fundraising and communications strategies.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate must:

  • Have a minimum of 2-3 years of related development and fundraising experience in nonprofit media, including responsibility for grant-writing and fund research and relations for organizations with a $2 million or larger annual budget.
  • Have experience writing successful grant proposals, including securing grants of at least $100,000 and multiyear grants.
  • Have proficiency with fundraising databases.
  • Have ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines while maintaining rigorous attention to detail.
  • Be a strategic thinker and problem-solver.
  • Be a creative and excellent storyteller who can weave research and data with strong narratives to communicate organizational impact and objectives.
  • Be fully bilingual in English and Spanish at a native level.
  • Have a sense of urgency to optimize processes and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Be a caring professional. An empathetic, charismatic individual that develops strong interpersonal relationships with peers horizontally and vertically inside and outside the organization.

COMPENSATION

The salary is $65,000 – $90,000, depending on experience.
