Lorena’s story made headlines across the world, but the truth of what happened to her was much more complex than you may have thought.

In 1993, a young Ecuadorian immigrant became famous in the most unexpected way. Her story reached all corners of the world and many women saw themselves reflected in her. One of them was the mother of our producer, Lisette Arévalo.
