Two tons of bronze that bear much more weight.

Since 1939, Uruguayans have known about the Graf Spee, a Nazi ship sunk off the coast of Montevideo during World War II, the remains of which lay at the bottom of the Plata River. What no one knew was that a long-lost and controversial treasure lay there too. The unexpected finding would put Uruguay in the center of an international diplomatic conflict and become a point of debate in the nation’s politics until this day.
