The midwives’ gift would lead them to confront an entire country. 

For a long time, Mayan midwives in Guatemala have sustained their country’s public health system by delivering babies where the State cannot provide for its citizens. One of these midwives is Graciela Velásquez, who has led a group battling for the Guatemalan Ministry of Health to recognize their work and their Mayan practices.
